My Homemade O-Zone cymbalsFeb 21, 2012
I decided to sacrifice a couple of my cymbals, and experiment a little, and see If i could produce a O-zone cymbal. I decided to use my 16" Wuhan S Series thin crash, and i was pleasantly surprised how good it turned out, the cymbal just sounds so much better as you will hear. I also decided to take my 18" Wyhan china and make a O-zone china out of it, this has not been produced(YET) by any cymbal manufacturer, but curiosity struck and I hated the way the Wuhan sounded before, so I have nothing to loose. Well it turned out amazing in my opinion, the cymbal is 100% better sounding than before. I have a very good friend by the name of Mark Burton, he is a machinist(Mark Burton Machine is his business name), he helped me make these, using his CAD tool, he was able to place the holes in perfect order and spacing for the individual cymbal, and was able to help determine what the best size hole would be for each cymbal, thanks mark. The 16" we used 2" holes, 6 holes total, with spacing 5" apart, and 3" from outer edge of cymbal. The 18" we used 2" for the outside holes, and 1.5" holes on the inside, I am not sure what the spacings were, I am sorry for that.

Soultone Cymbals (that makes one of the best cymbals in this world) and Jonathan Moffett (one of the greatest drummers, for over 30 years he played with Michael Jackson, also with Madonna) together they made incredible series of cymbals - the Soultone M series - Moffett signature Brilliant glassy sound, amazing look... just incredible!

A lot of people don't understand why I bought all these Paragons only to replace them, so I will try to explain. In 2004, I started buying Paragons just because they were the new Neil Peart models..they sounded good enough to me at the time, and were a good weight, so I started collecting them. I didn't really consider whether or not there would be another cymbal I would like even more. I thought, well, Neil plays them, so they must be the best cymbals ever! and I thought (and still do) that they were an improvement over his old "A" Zildjians. After 24 years, I was tiring of my Zildjians as well, and was ready for a change! I didn't really start questioning my cymbal sound until I sold my 22" Zildjian K Custom Ride to help purchase the Paragon ride...I realized I preferred THAT Zildjian ride over the Paragon ride! Then I started researching and shopping, and discovered the wonderful world of Paiste, and realized...Oh...I like these crashes better too! Anyway, now I'm playing more than ever and I've started playing in my original band again , so I've decided I wanted to find MY own sound, and that's what I'm doing...yes, as much as a Neil Peart fanatic that I am! I have also learned not to go by a sound sample on a website ONLY, you've got to hear a cymbal in person, because I've heard about 4 Paragon rides in person and every one of them sounds VERY different. Anyway, I'm a big fan of cymbals and I think Paiste, Zildjian, Sabian, and Meinl are all great cymbal ...
